Drug & Alcohol Prevention

To enhance our alcohol and drug prevention programs, the Fort Edward Union Free School District has contracted with the Council for Prevention of Alcohol and Substance Abuse. The Council will provide a six-week-program entitled, “Too Good for Drugs.” This program focuses on building knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse consequences/dangers, along with a social skills component. The curriculum provides a highly interactive format through the use of role-playing activities, discussion and games. Take home activities are also included to involve members of the family. “Too Good for Drugs” is being offered in addition to our existing drug and alcohol prevention programs.
Providing in-school programming on the dangers of alcohol and drug use is not enough to keep our children safe. Parents need to be vigilant in knowing what their children are doing and with whom they are with. Underage drinking and alcohol use are not a right of passage; and they are against the law. The school, parents and community need to come together to reduce the number of underage children who use alcohol and drugs.
